I come here in the hope that you will be able to give me some assistance on this very frustrating matter.
The other day, I was working on a map, using Stronghold 2 version 1.4.1. After roughly forty minutes, the map crashed as it often does - it appeared to be just a routine crash. I then attempted to re open the game, and I got the below error:

Please upgrade to windows 98SE, Windows 2000 or better.I hadn't the slightest clue what had happened, so I tried again, and received the same error. I then proceeded to reinstall Stronghold 2 completely back down to the 1.3.1 Deluxe version, and it appeared to work as I didn't get the error after that. However, I've just tried to install the 1.4.1 version for multiplayer, and I've got it again. I then reinstalled it again, and installed all the patches to get the error a third time.
So I reinstalled it, ran it from the deluxe version, it worked. I ran it from the 1.4 version - it worked. But after installing the 1.4.1 version, the same error comes up! I have registry editing and batch files disabled (silently too) from running on my PC, so I thought there could be a small chance of that interfering, do I enabled regedit & command prompt and then tried again, and once again, the same thing happened. So I attempted to run it in compatibility mode for Windows Vista, Windows XP (both service packs), Windows 7 and the same error still occurred.

I thought after having the registry disabled, some values may not have been updated, so I searched for 'stronghold2' and found an entry which I deleted - only for the same issue to re-occur again. Something appears to have changed, and I can't put my finger on what, or why. My game is the official game which I've had since 2008 at least, the patches were official patches, I took them from the links below:

Nothing has been installed that could be affecting it in any way, I'm completely clueless now. The patch installer states that it was installed correctly as well, which is even more of a puzzle!
If anyone has any advice, please share it, it's beginning to annoy me know as I have no idea what could possibly be going wrong.
